Complete Second Round Results

Rancho Mirage, Calif.-- Spartan women's golfer My Leander continued her consistent play for the second round of the 2017 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship as shot another two-under 70 in the second round and is tied for second at four-under 140. San José State tied for the best round of the day and moved into third place at 587.

Leander is tied for second with Fernanda Escauriza of San Diego State at four-under par 140. They trail Manon Molle of New Mexcio who shot a 69 on Tuesday and is seven-under par for the tournament. All three players are in the final grouping on Wednesday, beginning their round at 9:06 a.m.

During her second round, Leander made 14 pars, three birdies and one bogey. She started the day with four consecutive pars, followed by a birdie on the par-three #5, three pars and a bogey on #9 to shoot an even-par 36 on the front nine

She played the back-nine holes similarly to the front nine, making four consecutive pars before a birdie on the par-three #14, then three more pars. Leander ended her round on a positive note on Tuesday with a birdie on the par-five #18.

"Eighteen played very windy today, very different from yesterday. I was just happy to have that shot into the green, very close to the flag. Then it was a straight putt downhill, might as well make it," Leander told the Mountain West Network on Tuesday.

San José State tied with UNLV for the low round of the day at 290. The Spartans moved up two spots on the leaderboard to third place and are just 10 shots behind leader UNLV, who also shot a 290 in the second round. San Diego State is in second place, just one shot behind the Rebels and nine shots in front of the Spartans.

Spartan Abegail Arevalo shot up the individual leaderboard, jumping 10 spots, and is tied for seventh place at one-over, 145. She shot a one-under 71 in the second round, only her second under-par round of the season. Arevalo started the day by making eight consecutive pars before making back-to-back birdies on the par-five #9 and the par-four #10 holes. Over the last eight holes, she made three consecutive pars then bogey-par-birdie-bogey-par.

Elizabeth Schultz also jumped up seven spots on the leaderboard and is tied for 23rd after shooting a 75 on Tuesday. She made 14 pars during the round, while her only birdie came on the par-four #7.

Franziska Friedrich also moved up 10 spots to tie for 30th after shooting a two-over 74 and has a two-round total of 155. She and Arevalo were the only two golfers in the field to make a birdie on the par-four 16th hole in the second round. Friedrich made 12 pars and two birdies during her round.

Alexandra Cooper rounded out the Spartan scoring by shooting an 81 on Tuesday and is tied for 33rd at 157. She made birdies on #10 and #13 during the second round.

"We played better today on the par-3 holes, but we have to be better on the par-5 holes," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We have a better grasp on the bounce and roll of the ball on the greens.

"Tomorrow, we have to get off to a better start and make some birdies early in the round, especially if we want to put pressure on the other teams. We are going to have to earn what we get, and we control what will happen."

Final round action begins Wednesday at 7 a.m., with the Spartans beginning at 8:30 a.m. with UNLV and San Diego State. Fans can follow live at http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=11306.
