San Jose, Calif.----- The San Jose State University women's tennis team concluded its dual match regular season with a 7-0 sweep of San Diego State University in a Mountain West conference contest.

The Spartans (11-7, 2-2 Mountain West) ended a two-match losing streak by identical 4-3 scores and was the team's fourth shutout victory of the season. San Jose State players lost only one set among the 15 completed and handed San Diego State its eighth consecutive loss (5-17, 0-4 Mountain West).

Seniors Marie Klocker, Marine Dans and Gaelle Rey notched singles wins on San Jose State's Senior Day. Klocker also teamed with Sybille Gauvain at #1-doubles for a fast 6-1 win over Jana Buth and Paola Diaz de Regules to start the contest.

"Since it was Senior Day, I felt a little stressed, but we did a good job. I'm proud of all the girls, everything we did today," said Rey, second on the San Jose State career wins list with 136. "It was teamwork and I'm happy."

"It was a great day today. I was really excited. I wanted to make this Senior Day special," said Dans, who was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Paola Diaz de Regules at #3-singles. "I played well overall, maybe there was a little bit of pressure in doubles because it was the last home game. In singles, I was really pumped up. I was ready."

The Spartans' #3-doubles team of Tamara Culibrk and Miyo Kobayashi won their doubles match, 6-4, giving San Jose State a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard going into the Senior Day ceremonies at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club and the six singles matches.

Kobayashi, a sophomore, became the first Spartan this season to pick up 20 singles victories this season with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Mia Smith. Culibrk joined her minutes later. In a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Taylor Lederman.

The only singles match in question was the final one of the afternoon. San Jose State's Sybille Gauvain, ranked #95 nationally, survived multiple match points in a 10-point tiebreaker for a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (15-13) victory over Jana Buth of San Diego State in the #1-singles match.

"How Sybille ended her match with (winning) that tiebreaker is what we need going into the Mountain West. It was good to see the seniors play well. From the outset, you saw their motivation. The doubles point carried over to the singles," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka.

"I couldn't be more proud of them and I'm glad they're San Jose State Spartans," the Spartans coach added about his three seniors.

San Jose State heads to the Mountain West Championships on April 25 and will play its first match either Thursday, April 27 or Friday, April 28. The four-day tournament concludes on Sunday, April 30.
