Colorado Springs, Colo.----- For the second consecutive year, Marie Klocker and Sybille Gauvain of San Jose State University were named All-Mountain West women's tennis players in singles and doubles in a vote by the 11 conference coaches.
For Klocker, a senior from Mulhouse, France, she becomes the school's first player to be named an all-conference player in singles and doubles in each of her four seasons. The San Jose State leader in combined career singles and doubles victories at 139 prior to the start of the conference championship tournament now is the second player in Mountain West history to be named All-Mountain West in both events four consecutive years. New Mexico's Maja Kovacek, who played from 2003 through 2006, was the first in conference history.
This season, Klocker has a 14-9 singles record primarily playing the #2-position in the lineup and a 15-7 doubles mark. Her primary partner is Gauvain. Together, they are 13-6, 9-3 since the dual match season began in late January. They were #89-nationally in the April 11 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
For Gauvain, she is an All-Mountain singles player for the third time and All-Mountain West doubles player for the second year in a row. Presently, she is ranked #100 nationally in singles. This season, the junior from Frejus, France has 16 consecutive weeks in the national rankings -- the most by a Spartan in a season.
Playing in the #1-singles position during the dual match season, Gauvain is 9-3. Her 19-9 singles record for the year includes being the first San Jose State player to advance to the championship semifinal round of the 2016 ITA Northwest Regional Championships hosted annually by Stanford University. In doubles, Gauvain's season record is 15-6.
Klocker, Gauvain and the entire San Jose State team is in Las Vegas for the Mountain West Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Spartans (11-7) are the #3-seed and face the winner of the #6-Boise State vs. #11-New Mexico match, Friday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal round match. The championship match is Sunday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m.
The Mountain West Network will broadcast the April 29 semifinal round matches at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If San Jose State wins its quarterfinal round contest, the Spartans would be playing in the afternoon semifinal. San Jose State seeks its first conference championship in women's tennis since 2013.
