#16-Women's Water Polo Hosts #5-California

April 5, 2017

Following its final bye week of the regular season, San Jose State University begins its stretch run through its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) schedule next taking on the University of California, Saturday, April 8. The match at West Valley College begins at noon.

The Spartans (9-14, 0-2 MPSF) last played #1-ranked and unbeaten University of Southern California and lost, 19-3. San Jose State is ranked 16th in the current national coaches poll.

California (13-6, 1-3 MPSF) is ranked #5 nationally for the second week in a row after losing to #2-ranked Stanford, 8-2, on April 2. San Jose State and Cal are facing each other for the fourth time this season. The Golden Bears have three one-sided wins, 12-3 in the LouStrong Memorial, 15-6 at the Stanford Invitational, and 13-6 at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by UC Irvine.

Though the Spartans, now 16th in the national rankings, have given up a lot of goals this season, the team's power play defense has been a strong suit. In the last six contests, teams converted 7-of-44 power plays.

Following the Cal match, San Jose State University will host its annual Alumni Game at the West Valley College Aquatics Center starting at 3:00 p.m.

More information on the alumni match is available by contacting assistant coach Beth Harberts at beth.harberts@sjsu.edu
