April 6, 2017

San José, Calif.----- Beginning July 1, 2017, San José State University and adidas will enter into a six-year partnership in which the Portland, Ore., based company will be the official athletic footwear, uniform, apparel and accessory brand of the Spartans through the 2022-23 academic year.

With the new all-school deal, adidas will supply the Spartans with footwear, uniforms, apparel and accessories for all San José State intercollegiate athletics teams, beginning with the fall sports teams of football, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's golf and women's golf, men's cross country and women's cross country, and men's water polo and eventually include all 20 of the University's NCAA athletics programs.

"This is a touch-point moment for San José State Athletics. Our partnership with adidas provides our 20 sports programs with a consistent look in a quality worldwide brand and first-class apparel that will increase the awareness of San José State," says Marie Tuite, San José State's interim director of athletics. "There are many testimonials from major colleges and universities on adidas' diversified product lines and its superior service to its clients.

"There will be one look for San José State Athletics and our student-athletes, coaches and staff will look like the first-class program we exemplify."

San José State will be the first Mountain West member to partner with adidas. For San José State Athletics, it's the first time the program will have an all-school, comprehensive, department encompassing partnership with a major sports apparel company.

"Our mission is to help athletes perform better and over the next six years, we'll provide the Spartans with our most innovative footwear, apparel and equipment," said Jim Murphy, director of NCAA Sports Marketing at adidas America. "We believe that sports have the power to change lives and this new partnership is a great opportunity for adidas to collaborate with San José State Athletics to help them execute their mission to promote a common good through athletics competition and provide opportunities for athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I level."

At a date to be announced, San José State athletics apparel in the adidas line will become available at The Spartan Bookstore and online at www.sjsuspartans.com.

adidas is a global designer, developer and marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories with the mission to make all athletes better. adidas is the official uniform, footwear and apparel provider for more than 100 collegiate programs including Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina State and Texas A&M. adidas has marketing agreements with the National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Today's announcement is the second San José State University Athletics long-term, multi-million dollar promotional agreement since August 2016. Last year, San José State and CEFCU (Citizens Equity First Credit Union) forged a 15-year partnership for the University's football stadium to be named CEFCU Stadium -- Home of the Spartans through 2031.

  What They're Saying

San José State football head coach Brent Brennan -- "I'm really excited adidas decided to step up and support our entire athletics department here at San José State. I've seen what they did with the re-branding at Arizona State in terms how they outfitted those teams, their look, and creating a look, an image and a brand that is cutting edge, which is something I am very excited about. I know they will do a great job taking care of our players."

San José State women's soccer head coach Lauren Hanson -- "Having the entire San José State athletics department sponsored and unified under one brand helps us all make a positive stride forward. This move will help San José State visually to become more recognizable in our community."

San José State men's basketball head coach Dave Wojcik -- "This is a terrific deal for our entire school. You have a lot of great programs out there that are adidas and this will solidify San José State in that top tier. It's going to make us unique in that we will be the only men's basketball team in the Mountain West with adidas. We know adidas is going to take care of us and this is a `win-win' for everybody."
