Final Stats

Berkeley, Calif.- The San José State beach volleyball team went into Berkeley and upset #18 California, 3-2, Saturday afternoon.

Allison Meehan and Lyndi Scholl needed three sets in their win, taking the first set 21-19, before falling 23-21, and rallied to win 15-10. Julie Sam and Nandyala Gama won in straight sets 21-18, 21-18. Summer Avery and Jamie Hirai needed three sets to win - 18-21, 21-17, 15-11.

Luiza Andrade and Giulia Gávio fell in three sets 16-21, 21-13, 15-12, while Julia Golbeck and Kaitlynn Zdroik lost 21-11, 21-16.

"We've been battling hard and playing good volleyball for a couple weeks now without a solid team victory," said Spartan head coach Aaron Shepardson. "We've been very close but coming up short, and I've been telling our players that we can feel like we've given all we've got, or we can ask ourselves to play just a little bit better.

"We had a big breakthrough with Allison and Lyndi yesterday against Stanford, and again with Nandyala and Julie today against Cal to make the critical plays to finish off their sets."

The Spartans face Santa Clara Thursday afternoon at Los Gatos High School beginning at 3 p.m.
