Columbus, Ohio--Senior My Leander finished her Spartan career with a one-under 71 and finished tied for 13th at the NCAA Columbus Regional Wednesday. The San José State women's golf team shot a 306 and finished 10th at 920.

Leander finished her senior season the way she began it, with an under-par round. The Spartans started the day on #10, and Leander shot out to two-under par after five holes with three pars and birdies on #12 and #14. She then closed out holes 15-18 with three consecutive pars and a bogey. Leander then handled holes 1-9 by making seven consecutive pars before finishing with a birdie on #8 and a bogey on #9.

Leander finishes her four-year career at San José State by setting the single-season stroke average record at 71.27. She won two tournaments in her career - Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Meadow Club Intercollegiate. Leander was the 2016-17 Mountain West Women's Golf Player of the Year and a two-time first team All-MW selection. She played in three consecutive NCAA Regionals and finished second this year at the MW Championship. This year, Leander shot 17 of her 30 rounds under par and had six other par rounds.

Abegail Arevalo shot her second consecutive 76 and finished tied for 43rd at 231. She made four birdies on the day but just six pars. She finishes the year with the second-best stroke average at 74.23 and was a second team All-MW selection.

Franziska Friedrich shot and 80 in the final round to finish tied for 48th at 232. She recorded 11 pars in the final round but did not have a birdie. She ends her first year on the course for SJSU with a 75.47 stroke average and had four under-par rounds.

Alexandra Cooper recorded an 82 to finish tied for 61st at 236. Her only birdie of the day came on the par-four #16 hole. Cooper finished the year with a 75.97 stroke average, besting her freshman average by 2.35.

Elizabeth Schultz rounded out the Spartan scoring with a 79 in the final round to finish in 75th place at 240. She made birdies on #12 and #14, her only two of the day. Schultz finished the year with a 76.33 stroke average.

"We finished the week where we started," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We fought really hard and did not give up. We faced some difficult challenges with the time zone changes, the golf course, the weather and a 7:30 a.m. Eastern start every day. We made some good birdies today but made too many silly mistakes and you cannot advance to nationals making those mistakes.

"It was great to see My have a good final round and get herself back into the top-25. She has been our leader all year and came through at the end.

"Overall, we were very consistent this year, starting with our win at the first tournament of the season. My was outstanding from beginning to end this season and our leader on the course. We have players that will continue to develop their game and will build upon that for next year."

Florida and South Carolina tied for first at the regional at 886. The other four teams advancing to the championships were Florida State, Ohio State, Purdue and Michigan.
