Rimington Trophy Watch List

New York, N.Y.----- Keoni Taylor, a two-year starter for the San Jose State University football team, is one of 63 players listed on the Rimington Trophy 2017 Spring Watch List.

The Rimington Trophy honors the most outstanding player playing the center position among the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools. The award is named after Dave Rimington, a 1981 and 1982 consensus first-team All-American center for the University of Nebraska.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3, 303-pound senior from Bakersfield, Calif., became the Spartans starter at center at the start of the 2015 season. His 24 starts in the last two seasons are the most by a San Jose State University player at the position in the last 10 years.

In 2015, he anchored an offensive line that paved the way for one of the most balanced offenses in school history. That year, the Spartans rushed for 2,378 yards and 24 touchdowns and passed for 2,882 yards and 21 TDs en route to winning the AutoNation Cure Bowl.

The Rimington Trophy for the 2017 season will be presented January 13, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Proceeds from Rimington Trophy events benefit the cystic fibrosis community.

San Jose State University opens its season, Saturday, August 26, hosting USF (South Florida) in a non-conference game at CEFCU Stadium. Game time is 4:30 p.m. (PDT) with coverage by the CBS Sports Network. Season tickets for the six-game home schedule are available at sjsuspartans.com and by calling (408) 924-SJTX.
