San Jose, Calif.-- Four Spartans recorded double-figure kills, but it was the 12th kill of the night by Latahevai Lousi that gave San José State the 3-1 win over Santa Clara Saturday night inside Spartan Gym.

Lousi, making her 2017 debut this weekend after a preseason injury kept her out of the first nine matches, needed three swings at the ball on match point before her final one went down for the Spartan victory. She led the Spartans in hitting at .409 with 12 kills on 22 attempts and only three hitting errors.

Nandyala Gama hit .310 for the match with 11 kills on 29 attempts and only two errors. She also led the team with five block assists. Gama moved into a tie for eighth-place all-time in blocking at San José State with 308. She is also ninth in career block assists with 268.

For her efforts over the weekend, Gama was named to the all-tournament team of the SCU/SJSU Tournament. In three matches, she recorded double-digit kills in all three matches and hit .313.

Fernanda Vido led all hitters with 18 kills and added seven digs and two blocks, one solo and one assist. Giulia Gávio rounded out the double-digit killers with 10 kills and was one dig away from another double-double this weekend. She led the team with three service aces.

Luiza Andrade recorded her second 20+ dig match of the weekend with a team-best 24 digs. She added four assists in the win.

Starting setter Breann Robinson recorded 53 assists, eight digs, four kills, two block assists and a service ace.

The Spartan win broke a seven-match losing streak to the Broncos. The two teams had not faced each other since the 2008 season. San José State's last win against SCU came in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament when the Spartans came from behind to win 3-2 at Stanford on November 30, 2001.

San José State finished the non-conference portion of the schedule with an 8-3 record. The team opens Mountain West play this Tuesday, September 19, at Nevada. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Street Gym. Fans can watch on Stadium (www.watchstadium.com)
