Portland, Ore. --- The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is hosting its 38th Induction Ceremony on Tuesday night and San José State women's soccer coach Lauren Hanson will be enshrined along with her teammates from the 2002 University of Portland women's soccer team.
Since 1980 the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame has inducted the best of Oregon athletes, teams, and coaches, as well as those who have made a special, lifetime contribution to sports. The annual Induction Ceremony is held at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland and is a gala celebration of all that is good in Oregon's rich athletic heritage.
"One of the countless benefits of being in sport is that you develop life-long relationships," said San José State Director of Athletics Marie Tuite. "Coach Hanson will love being with her former teammates as they celebrate their accomplishments from the early 2000's. She was then, and she still is, a champion! We're excited for her to experience this touchpoint moment".
As Lauren Orlandos, Hanson enjoyed an illustrious playing career as a four-year centerback for Portland. She was a member of three Pilot teams to play in the NCAA Women's College Cup. The 2000 and 2001 clubs reached the semifinals, and she captained the 2002 Pilots to the program's first NCAA Women's College Cup championship.
She returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach and won another NCAA College Cup title in 2005.
Hanson is now in her fourth season as the head women's soccer coach at San José State. She guided the Spartans to a Mountain West championship in 2015 when she was the league's Coach of the Year.
