Kevin Velo Surges to First Career Top-Five Finish at GolfWeek Conference Challenge

Final Results

Cedar Rapids, Iowa--- Kevin Velo shot a four under par 68 in round three of the GolfWeek Conference Challenge to capture his first career top-five finish. The junior shot only one bogey in round three of the tournament. Velo tied for fifth place shooting a three-day score of five-under par 211.

The San José State University men's golf team jumped two spots up the leaderboard to finish in seventh place on the Donald Ross Course at Cedar Rapids Country Club. The team shot 14-over par 878 on the par-72, 7,112-yard course.

Scott Munger tied at 44th after shooting 10-over par in his last round. He finished the tournament at eight-over par with a total score of 224.

Sean Talmadge tied for 51st shooting a three-day score of nine-over par 225. In round three Talmadge shot three-over par 75.

Sean Yu bounced back in round three shooting two-under par 70. He finished his first tournament as a Spartan 11-over par, tied for 60th.

Vijay Srinivasan tied for 73rd place shooting 238 in three rounds.

North Carolina State won the GolfWeek Conference Challenge by two strokes over Iowa. The Wolfpack had a team score of 17-under par 847. Benjamin Shipp of North Carolina State won the tournament, over Alex Schaake of Iowa, shooting 10-under par 206.

The Spartans next compete on October 9 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, California.
