Final Stats - Cal State Fullerton Final Stats - Howard
Fullerton, Calif.-- Nandyala Gama hit .473 in two matches Saturday to lead the San José State volleyball team to sweeps of Cal State Fullerton (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) and Howard (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) at the Fullerton/Riverside Classic.
Gama led the Spartans with 16 kills in each match. She hit .519 against the Titans (16-2-27) and .357 against Howard (16-6-28). Gama had two service aces and two blocks against Howard and three digs, one ace and one block against Cal State Fullerton.
Against Cal State Fullerton, Gama combined with Laura Parts to hit .595 for the match in the 3-0 win. Parts hit a team-best .733 with 11 kills on 15 attempts and no errors. The Spartans hit a season-best .339 with one 13 hitting errors and 50 kills.
Fernanda Vido recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Luiza Andrade led the team with 12 digs, while Jamie Hirai added 10 digs.
In the sweep of Howard, Gama led the team with 16 kills followed by Vido with 14. Andrade again led the team with 13 digs, and Arianna Newcomb added 10. Thaliana Grajeda led the team in blocking with four.
The Spartans end the weekend with a 4-1 overall record. The team travels to Iowa next weekend for the Drake Invitational. The team will play Omaha, Drake and Montana on September 8 and 9.
