San Jose, Calif.----- A goal in the third minute of the first half by Aidan Marmion stood up as the University of San Diego defeated San Jose State University, 1-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match.
Marmion took a cross from teammate Miguel Berry at the top of the box and fired his shot past Spartan goalkeeper David Heredia for the only goal of the match. The goal was the first of the season for Marmion.
San Jose State (2-6) outshot San Diego (5-3-1), 9-4, but was unable to produce an equalizer.
Heredia, in his second match of the season, was credited with two saves. San Diego goalkeeper Thomas Olsen made three saves.
The Spartans now head into the start of Western Athletic Conference with matches at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah on September 29, and Seattle University on October 1. Both matches will be available on the WAC Digital Network.
