San Jose, Calif. --- The San Jose State women's soccer team has swept the opening weekend of Mountain West play with a 2-1 victory over Boise State on Sunday at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
The Spartans (5-4-0, 2-0-0 MW) have now won four in a row going back to non-conference play.
Continuing the momentum from Friday's game-winning goal in double-overtime, which came on a corner kick, both San Jose State goals on Sunday were part of corner kick sets.
Jennifer Orozco scored the first goal of her Spartan career to give SJSU the lead, 1-0, in the 57th minute. Yaritza Arista sent the ball in from the left corner, off the head of Gabriella Hurtado and to the feet of Orozco in front of the left post. She tapped in a slow rolling shot low inside the left post.
Just 1:40 seconds of game time went by until Dorthe Hoppius made it 2-0 Spartans when she blasted a shot from the middle of the box past the Broncos Keeper. Arista played the ball to Hoppius from the right corner for the assist. It is the third goal of the season for Hoppius.
Boise State (6-4-1, 1-1-0 MW) managed to score on a busted play in the 88th minute to erase another clean sheet for SJSU keeper Paige Simoneau (4-2-0, 2-0-0 MW). Aubree Chatterton got a hold of the ball near midfield in stride and sent a bounding ball from nearly 30 yards out inside the right post.
Simoneau ended the match with a pair of saves on the way to her fourth straight win. Broncos keeper Janelle Flores (5-3-1, 1-1-0 MW) finished with eight saves in the loss.
San Jose State outshot Boise State 23-7 in the match including 14-4 in the second half. Orozco and Hoppius accounted for four of the Spartans' 10 shots on goal.
The Spartans outshot their first two Mountain West opponents 47-17 and had a 19-7 advantage in shots on goal.
San Jose State's next match at Colorado State on Friday, September 29, begins a four-match road streak.
