San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State University men's water polo team (5-5) heads up the road to take on the No.4 Stanford Cardinal (6-3) Saturday, September 30. The No.18 Spartans will face the No.4 Cardinal in their home opener at the Avery Aquatic Center at 11:00 a.m. This is the first meeting this season between the two teams.
Last Time Out: Freshman, Jacob Mercep, led the Spartans with 22 goals in the four matches at the MPSF Invitational. Mercep ignited the Spartans, gathering six goals against No.2 USC, No.7 UCSB, and No.19 Pomona-Pitzer. He also tallied four goals in a 9-6 win over Air Force. The performance earned the freshman his first Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week honor of his career.
The Spartans went 2-2 in the tournament, losing to No.2 USC, and No.7 UCSB. The team picked up wins against No.19 Pomona-Pitzer and Air Force.
Previously at Stanford: In the last meeting at Stanford, the Spartans lost 15-3. San José State received a pair of goals from Finn Pardon, and a goal from Zachary Scudder.
