Des Moines, Iowa-- The San José State volleyball team recorded two wins on Friday and extended its winning streak to four matches with wins over Omaha (3-1) and host Drake (3-2) at the Drake Invitational. The Spartans are now 6-1 on the season.
The team started Friday with a 3-1 win over Omaha. Giulia Gávio led all hitters with 17 kills. Fernanda Vido added 16 kills, while Nandyala Gama recorded 15 kills. She hit a team-best .650 with 20 attempts and only two hitting errors.
On defense, Luiza Andrade led the team with 13 digs, while Jamie Hirai added 12. Thaliana Grajeda led the team with four block assists, while Breann Robinson added three blocks.
For the match, the Spartans hit .375, recorded eight service aces (three by Andrade), outblocked Omaha, 7-5, and
The Spartans and Bulldogs finished off a long day of matches, and it took five sets and almost three hours before San José State 3-2 in a school-record-breaking two hours and 58 minutes, breaking the record of 2:50.
