Davis, Calif.--- The San José State men's water polo team (1-1) was defeated by the No. 9 ranked Aggies (4-2) in an 11-5 loss Saturday at the Schaal Aquatics Center.
In the Spartan's first away game of the season, Justin Pickering had a pair of power play goals in the second and third period.
Freshman Jacob Mercep notched his first goal as a Spartan in the first period on a power play.
The score at the end of the first half was a 6-4 Aggie lead. A pair of goals from UC Davis' Yurii Hanley and Marcus Anderson gave the Aggies the first half advantage.
In the second half, the Spartans failed to put together the performance needed to win the match. They had one goal in the second half compared to the Aggie's five. Goalkeeper, TJ Palmer, blocked 10 shots in net for the Spartans.
The men's water polo team next competes in the Aggie shootout in Davis, California. The tournament will begin on Saturday, September 16th, when the Spartans face off against their conference opponent, Pepperdine, at 9:00 a.m. and Whittier at 2:00 p.m.
On Sunday, September 17th, the men's water polo team will be playing Santa Clara at 9:00 a.m., and conference opponent Pacific at 1:30 p.m.
