Laramie, Wyo. --- The San Jose State women's soccer team had its five-game winning streak ended on Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Wyoming in Mountain West play.
"It's a challenging place to play and we knew that going in," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "Our goal is to come out and compete hard in every game and I'm proud of the way our team did that today and on this road trip."
The Spartans (6-5-0, 3-1-0 MW) and Cowgirls (6-4-2, 2-1-1 MW) played evenly through the first 80 minutes in cold and snowy conditions. But Wyoming's Taylor Burton broke through with the game-winning goal in the 81st minute.
The play started with a corner kick which was cleared out by the Spartans, but not quite far enough and Burton was there for the put-back goal.
Both teams finished with four shots on goal and were even in the total shot column, 5-5, in the second half. Spartan keeper Paige Simoneau made three saves in her first loss of conference play. Wyoming keeper Georgia Rowntree made four saves on the way to a shutout.
San Jose State heads to San Diego State for its next match on Friday, October 6.
