Berkeley, Calif.--- The #16-San José State University men's water polo team (9-8) was defeated 20-6 by #3-California (15-1) Sunday afternoon at the Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Spartans are 0-5 this season in away games.

The Bears came out firing in the first period. Luca Cupido scored four times in the first period. Cal had a 13-2 lead heading into the second half.

Leading the Spartans in scoring was Finn Pardon. The sophomore had three goals in the match. Bendeguz Toth, Giacomo Lovatelli, and Jacob Mercep each had a goal in the game.

The Spartans next compete in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at West Valley College on October 21, when San Jose State faces Cal Baptist at 9:00 a.m., and Harvard at 2:20 p.m. On October 22, the Spartans take on Wagner at 9:00 a.m. and Loyola Marymount at 1:00 p.m.
