San Jose, Calif.---The San José State University men's water polo team is ranked #11 in the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association's weekly Top-20 rankings. After a 7-6 upset over #8 UC Santa Barbara, the team moved from #16 to #11 in this week's poll. The squad is 9-8 this season with a 2-0 record at home.
The team is led by true freshman, Jacob Mercep, who has accumulated 73 points over 16 games this season. He leads the conference with 59 goals. The two-time GCC Player of the Week is averaging 3.69 goals per game.
Defensively the Spartans are led by Ben Hauschild, and Bendeguz Toth. Hauschild is second in the GCC in steals with 36. Toth has accumulated 17 steals this season.
This weekend the team will be co-hosting the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament October 21-22 with Santa Clara. The following is the game schedule for this weekend at West Valley College in Saratoga, California:
