Women's Tennis At ITA Northwest Regional Championships

Oct. 18, 2017

In one of the biggest tournaments of the fall, San Jose State University is one of 19 teams participating in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Championships, Thursday, October 19, through Tuesday, October 24 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the Stanford campus.

Opening day play begins at 8:15 a.m. with doubles action. On Friday, October 20, first serve is at 9:00 a.m.

The Spartans are entering seven singles players and three doubles pairs in their fourth tournament of the season. #1-singles player Sybille Gauvain is the #3-seeded singles player. At last year's ITA Northwest Regional Championships, Gauvain became the first San Jose State player to reach a championship singles semifinal round match. Gauvain drew a bye in the first round of singles.

Sophomores Tamara Culibrk and Clara Mantaux, junior Miyo Kobayashi and freshmen Jacqueline Wagner, Laura Malsert and Savannah Sendar have first round singles matches.

San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka continues to tinker with his doubles combinations. This weekend, he is going with Gauvain and Kobayashi, Culibrk and Malsert, and Wagner and Mantaux.

Besides San Jose State, California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Goznaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle U., UC Davis, Washington and Washington State are entering players.
