Malibu, Calif.----- Seniors Colleen Humel and Taylor Lehr each finished first in their respective races for San Jose State University on the first day of the Malibu Invitational women's swimming and diving meet at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on the Pepperdine University campus.
Humel won the 400 individual medley with a 4:34.31 time. The Spartans had the top five spots in the race with sophomore Violani Auva'a second at 4:37.27. San Jose State had six of the top seven finishers in the race.
Lehr led a contingent of the top six finishers, all from San Jose State, in the 500 free. She posted a winning time of 5:06.65. Sophomore Katie McIntee was second at 5:11.02.
"I am very happy with our progress over the past two weeks, especially given we didn't practice most of last week due to the poor air quality from the fires in Napa and Sonoma counties. The team is pumped for tomorrow and I'm very excited to see what we do," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins.
The two-day meet concludes on October 21 with 14 swimming events starting at 10:00 a.m.
