San Jose, Calif.--- The #11 San José State University men's water polo team (13-8, 1-1) will travel south to compete against #8 Pepperdine and #1 USC this weekend. The Spartans play the Waves October 27 at 6:00 p.m. Then travel inland to play USC October 28 at 1:00 p.m.
The Spartans are 8-1 in their last nine games heading into a weekend where they face two top-10 opponents.
Last Time Against Pepperdine: In the previous matchup this season against the Waves, the Spartans were defeated 10-4 at the Aggie Shootout. The conference's second place leader in goals, Marko Asic, scored twice to seal the win for the Waves.
Jacob Mercep and Luka Cupic both scored for the Spartans in the game. TJ Palmer made seven saves against Pepperdine.
Last Time Against USC: The Golden Coast Conference's leading goal scorer Jacob Mercep put up six goals against the Trojans. It is the most goals USC had given up to a single player since Pacific's, Balazs Erdelyi, scored seven on December 8 2013. Balazs was on the 2016 Hungarian National Team that participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
San José State was defeated 18-9 by USC. In the match Justin Pickering, Ben Hauschild, and Stefan Petkovic each had goals.
