San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State University men's soccer team was shut out, 4-0, by 15th ranked Air Force at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
Air Force (12-1-3, 6-0-2 WAC) scored their three goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half to take sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
"We had kept it tight in the first half and we played little bit open in the second half so they punished us," said Spartan head coach Simon Tobin. "With the two games in the Texas we are just a bit tired and looked sluggish as compared to Air Force.
"We made some silly mistakes in the match. We will be more positive in the next match and try to figure out the mistakes we made," said Spartans goal keeper David Heredia.
Austin Dewing of the Falcons scored a three-goal hat-trick in the match. Air Force fired 11 shots to the Spartans' 12 in the today's match.
The Spartans (5-10-1, 3-4-1 WAC) are in a seventh-place tie with 10 points in the WAC standings. The top seven teams in the 11-team conference advance to the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas next month.
SJSU plays against Kansas City on Sunday, October 29 at Spartan Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT. The Kangaroos (5-8-3, 3-5-0 WAC) are in ninth place in the standings.
