Spartans' Women's Hoops Is Back!!!

Oct. 4, 2017

San Jose, Calif. -- San José State women's basketball is back! On Monday, in The Event Center, fifth-year head coach Jamie Craighead got the 2017-18 Spartans on the court for their first full-team practice.

The players spent the majority of the summer on campus working out, but have now begun an intensive six-weeks period in preparation for the upcoming season.

Senior guard Myzhanique Ladd leads one of the youngest teams in the nation. In a preseason poll, it was revealed that SJSU has the second youngest team in NCAA Division I women's basketball, based on percentage of freshman and sophomores on the roster.

Twelve of SJSU's 15 players are underclassmen (80 percent), which ties the squad with Florida International. UNC Greenville has the youngest team in the nation at 87.7 percent. SJSU's freshman class, as a percentage of the total team, ranks as the fourth youngest in the nation. Eight players on the team (53 percent) are freshmen.

San José State begins the 2017-18 season with an exhibition game against Stanislaus State at 2:00 p.m., on November 5 in the Event Center. The regular season opens at UCLA on November 10, and the home opener comes a week later, on November 17 at 7:00 p.m., in The Event Center, against CSU Bakersfield.

Season tickets are on sale now. Individual game tickets go on sale October 23. For ticket information call the Spartans Ticket Office at 408-924-7589 or go to www.sjsuspartans.com.
