Oct. 4, 2017

Pacific Palisades, Calif.----- San Jose State University's Sybille Gauvain lost her final match of the Riviera/ITA All-American women's tennis tournament to Duke University's Kelly Chen, one of the top four newcomers in the country.

Chen, a freshman from Cerritos, Calif., and ranked the #4-newcomer nationally in college women's tennis by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), topped Gauvain, 6-1, 6-2.

"Sybille had a tough match against one of the top incoming freshmen in the U.S. Today," said San Jose State women's tennis head coach Chad Skorupka. "She has a few weeks to work on some things and get ready for ITA regionals near the end of the month (at Stanford)."

Gauvain, playing in the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament for the second consecutive year, had a busy week of action playing seven matches in six days at San Diego State and at the ITA All-American. She played three singles matches in two days at the All-American and finished with a 1-2 mark. The Northwest ITA Regional Championships are October 19 through October 23.

The rest of the San Jose State team returns to action Friday, October 6, for the three-day Saint Mary's Invitational in Moraga, Calif.
