Irvine, Calif.--- The San José State University men's water polo team (5-7, 0-1 GCC) lost 13-4 to UC Irvine (10-4, 1-0 GCC) Friday night at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. The Anteaters outscored the Spartans ,9-1, in the second half to seal the victory.
Jack Trush from UC Irvine scored three goals in the Golden Coast Conference opener for both teams. Lovre Milos, Fynn Schuetze, and Ian Fleenor each scored twice for the Anteaters.
Justin Pickering, Luka Cupic, Ashley Castle, and Jacob Mercep each had one goal for the Spartans.
San Jose State's TJ Palmer had seven saves in the match.
The Spartans next compete in the Gary Troyer Tournament Saturday, October 7, in Claremont, California. San Jose State faces #15-Cal Baptist at 9:15 a.m., Chapman at 3:30 p.m., and #22-Whittier 4:45 p.m.
