Fresno, Calif.----- Senior Cari Reiswig started the 2017-18 San Jose State University women's swimming and diving season with a big splash winning the 3-meter diving event on the opening day of the Chick-Fil-A Invitational hosted by Fresno State.
Reiswig posted a score of 316.15 outdistancing Fresno State's Serea Sedillo, second at 290.80. She also finished third in the 1-meter diving competition.
"We had a solid opening day to the season starting with Cari Reiswig's win in 3-meter diving and Brittany Heng's second place performance in the 50 free," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins.
"We also had some great relay efforts from Shona Spikes, Katie McIntee, Taylor Lehr and Brenna Bushey. Jenna Lloyd in the 50 free and Tori Fountain in the 100 breast had breakthrough performances."
Heng's time in the 50 free was 23.65, .15 off her best time last year of 23.50 at the A3 Invitational.
Colleen Humel gave the Spartans a second third-place finish on the day with her 57.01 time in the 100 backstroke.
In the team scoring, San Jose State is fifth with 305 points. Cal, ranked #5-nationally by CollegeSwimming.com, is first with 879 points.
The two-day invitational concludes Saturday, October 7, with seven swimming events.
