Schultz In Top-20, Women's Golf Tied For 11th After First Round Action

Highlands Ranch, Colo.- Elizabeth Schultz shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 19th as she lead the San José State women's golf team to an 11th-place tie after the first round of the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate at the Highlands Ranch Golf Course.

Schultz started the day by making par on 13 of her first 14 holes, her only blemish a bogey on the par-five #2. Over her last four holes, she went bogey-birdie-par-birdie. She is tied for third in the field in pars made at 14.

Ysabel Tran is tied for 29th after shooting a one-over 73 in the first round. She made three birdies and four bogeys during the round. Tran started the day by making five pars and a birdie (#2) before finishing with three bogeys to be +2 through nine holes. She rebounded over the final nine holes by making six pars, two birdies and a bogey to end the day just one over par.

Abegail Arevalo is tied for 59th at five-over 75. She started the round by making three birdies over her first six holes before finishing the front nine with three pars. Arevalo started the back-nine by going birdie-par-birdie then two consecutive pars to be one over through 14 holes. She shot four-over par over her final four holes to end the day at +5.

Franziska Friedrich is tied for 68th at seven-over 79. She made 13 pars during her round but did not make a birdie and had four bogeys and a triple bogey.

Judith Castro Roldan made her Spartan debut on Friday with a 14-over 86. She is currently in 80th place. After a rough start over the first nine holes (+12), Castro Roldan shot two-over her last nine holes and finished strong with back-to-back birdies on #17 and #18.

"We just did not execute our second shots on the par-five holes the way we can," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow and have better ball striking from everyone."

The second round begins at 9 a.m. MT on Saturday. The Spartans begin the second round from hole 10 beginning at 9:50 a.m. MT/8:50 a.m. PT. The Spartans will play with Northern Arizona and Cal Poly.
