Highlands Ranch, Colo.- Abegail Arevalo and Franziska Friedrich each shot a two-under 70 for San José State in the second round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate Saturday afternoon. The Spartans ended the day in 10th place after shooting a 293.
San José State started the second round off of #10, and every player started the day on a positive note as everyone made par on par-four hole.
Arevalo made three birdies and two bogeys to go with four pars to shoot one-under through nine holes. Over her final nine holes, she made eight pars and a birdie on the par-three#4 to finish at two-under 70. Arevalo is now tied for 28th overall at three-over 147.
Friedrich shot two-under par for her first nine holes on the day, making birdies on #14 and #18 and pars on the seven other holes. She then made a birdie on the par-five #2, one bogey and seven pars to finish the day at two-under 70. Friedrich is now tied for 41st at five-over 149.
Elizabeth Schultz shot a three-over 75 and is now tied for28th at three-over 147. She made two birdies and 13 pars during her round, but two double bogeys and a bogey found her at 75.
Ysabel Tran finished the day at six-over 78 and is now tied for 44th at seven-over 151. She was even par through her first nine holes with birdies on #14 and #16, but did not make a birdie over her final nine holes. Judith Castro Roldan is 79th at 174 after shooting an 88 in the second round.
"Abby and Franziska returned to form today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We are struggling to finish with four good scores. We don't seem to be capitalizing on our birdie opportunities, and every mistake we make is costing us. We need to fire on all cylinders tomorrow."
Final round action has shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. MT/8 a.m. PT.
