Highlands Ranch, Colo.-- Spartan women's golfer Abegail Arevalo shot her second consecutive 70 in the third round of the Rom Moore Intercollegiate and had her second top-20 finish of the season Sunday. San José State finished tied for ninth at 887.
Arevalo finished tied for 19th at one-over 217. She hot 77-70-70 over her three rounds and was the only Spartan to shoot under par in the final round. During the third round, Arevalo made five birdies, three bogeys and 10 pars.
Elizabeth Schultz shot a 74 in the final round to finish 33rd at five-over 221. She made two birdies over her final 18 holes to go with 12 pars and four bogeys.
Franziska Friedrich tied for 34th at 222 after shooting a one-over 73 in the final round. She made four birdies during the third round and was three-under par on holes #1-9.
Ysabel Tran shot a 76 to finish at 227 and tie for 49th place. Judith Castro Roldan rounded out the Spartan team by shooting an 85 and finishing 79th at 259.
"We will have to rebound quickly from this poor performance. We made far too many double bogeys this week and have to improve our wedge and short-iron play. We hope to have Alexandra Cooper back in the lineup next week," said Spartan head coach John Dormann.
The Spartans return to the Bay Area for the Stanford Invitational, October 16-17, at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
