Spartans Have Good Day In Singles At Saint Mary's Invitational Tennis

Moraga, Calif.----- Freshman Jacqueline Wagner and junior Miyo Kobayashi each won two singles matches on the second day of the Saint Mary's Invitational women's tennis tournament.

Wagner topped Rachel Swindell of Eastern Washington, 6-4, 6-1, and Elvena Gevargiz of Santa Clara, 6-1, 6-4. Wagner advances to a championship semifinals match against Cal's Jacie Dunk who edged teammate Julie Vereecke, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in a doubles quarterfinal round contest.

Overall, the Spartans won seven of their eight singles matches and lost both doubles encounters.

The three-day tournament starts with doubles matches at 8:30 a.m. on October 8.
