Series history: The series is tied, 19-19-1 with one cancellation. The teams have split four games with the visiting team winning each time since the Spartans joined the Mountain West in 2013. Hawai'i won last year's meeting in San Jose, 34-17.
The last time the home team won in this series was on October 14, 2011 when San Jose State edged Hawai'i, 28-27.
The Rainbow Warriors' last home win in the series was a 41-7 triumph during the 2010 series. The one cancellation in the series was the December 16, 1941 game in Honolulu. The game was canceled following the December 7 attack on Pearl Harbor. The Spartans traveling party arrived in Hawai'i on December 3.
Only team with seven games played: Through October 7, San Jose State is the only team among the 129 Football Bowl Subdivision teams to play seven games. Sixty-one (61) teams have played six games; fifty-nine (59), five games played; and eight (8), four games played this season.
First to 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and now 100: Linebacker Frank Ginda is the first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player this season to be credited with 50 tackles and now 100 tackles. Ginda has 106 tackles in seven games after a personal single-game high 19 vs. Fresno State on October 7. He heads into the Hawai'i game the national leader in number of tackles and total tackles per game at 15.1.
Looking for better first halves: In San Jose State's last two games, the Spartans yielded one touchdown to UNLV and two field goals to Fresno State in the second half. However, in the first half of the same two games, the opponents combined to outscore, 56-13.
In the second half of the October 7 game vs. Fresno State, San Jose State's defense limited the Bulldogs to 63 yards of total offense and three first downs.
Turnovers still plaguing Spartans: San Jose State passers threw two interceptions and the Spartans fumbled twice leading to 10 points in the 27-10 loss to Fresno State.
This season, Spartan opponents have turned 24 turnovers (11 interceptions, 13 fumbles) into 103 points.
Crawford ties San Jose State career mark and sets school single-season record: Junior Bryce Crawford became the second San Jose State kicker to kick three field goals of 50 or more yards in a career with his second 51-yard field goal of the season in the Fresno State game.
Austin Lopez, the Spartans' primary placekicker during the 2012 through 2015 seasons, kicked three 50 yards field goals in his San Jose State career including a 50-yarder in the 2015 win over Hawai'i at Aloha Stadium.
Crawford is the first Spartan to kick three field goals of 50 or more yards in a season with his three-pointers of 51 yards at Utah (9/16), career-long 53 yards vs. Utah State (9/23) and 51 yards vs. Fresno State (10/7).
Based on available records, Crawford is the first San Jose State player to attempt field goals of 50 or more yards in four consecutive games. He missed a 52-yard try at UNLV (9/30).
