Water Polo Closes Regular Season With 21-16 Loss to Pacific

San Jose, Calif.--- The #11 San José State University men's water polo team was defeated 21-16 by #5 University of the Pacific at West Valley College. The Tigers put the game away early with a 8-0 run through the first period.

The Spartans settled down and battled back through periods 2-4. San José State outscored Pacific 16-13 after the first period. Jacob Mercep led the Spartans with five goals and two assists. The true freshman leads the Golden Coast Conference with 85 goals through 25 games.

Luka Cupic, Finn Pardon, Ben Hauschild, and Bendeguz Toth each had a pair of goals in the match.

Ben Hauschild set a San José State record with six assists in the match.

Pacific's Luke Pavillard surged to score seven goals on seven shots in the high scoring affair.

The Spartans begin tournament play at the Golden Coast Conference Championship November 17 in Irvine California.
