San Jose, Calif. -- The San José State University men's soccer team lost to #20 Seattle University, 2-1, in the 2017 Western Athletic Conference championship match.
The Spartans, winners seven of their last nine matches, end their season with a 9-11-1 record. This match also marks the final game for seniors Carlos Valdovinos and Jeremy Romero.
Seattle U. scored the first two goals of the match. In the 36th minute, Nathan Aune took Sergio Rivas' corner kick and headed the ball into the top right corner of the cage.
Alex Roldan's goal in the 75th minute gave Seattle U. a 2-0 lead. Rivas also was credited with an assist on Roldan's goal.
The Spartans' goal came in the 87th minute on an own goal. Aune attempted to clear a Spartan pass, but kicked the ball past the goalkeeper Josh Adachi.
San Jose State managed only three shots. Valdovinos had two of them and Finlay Wood had the other.
Spartan goalkeeper David Heredia was credited with one save. Adachi of the Red Hawks (14-3-4) did not have a save.
Junior midfielder Jonathan Partida, junior defender Andy Rios and freshman midfielder Max Allen were named to the 11-person all-tournament team.
