Cincinnati, Ohio----- San Jose State University set two Keating Pool records on the first day of the three-day Bearcat Midseason Invitational held at the University of Cincinnati campus.

The Spartans won the 400 medley relay with a pool record time of 3:42.35, shattering the previous record of 3:43.82 set at last year's Bearcat Midseason Invitational. Senior Colleen Humel led off the relay with a 100 backstroke time of 53.48, more than a second faster than the previous pool record of 55.14. Freshman Shona Spikes, junior Brenna Bushey and senior Brittany Heng finished off San Jose State's record-setting relay. The 3:42.35 time ranks #5 on the Spartans' all-time list.

San Jose State victory in the 400 medley relay was the only event won by a school other than host Cincinnati and propelled the Spartans into second place after the first of three days in the Keating Aquatic Center pool.

San Jose State has 233 points compared to Cincinnati's 296. Illinois State at 122, Indiana State with 72 and Lindsey Wilson, 70, also are competing for top team honors.

"We had a very solid evening tonight with our medley relay team and Colleen Humel (leading off in the 100 back) breaking pool records," said San Jose State University women's swimming and diving coach Sage Hopkins. "I think we'll be even better tomorrow (Friday) as we sort out the travel and time change."

The Spartans scored heavily in the 50 free. Heng was the #1-qualifer in the preliminary heats with a 23.09, #7 on the all-time San Jose State list. She finished second in the event's evening final at 23.13. Four more Spartans, Antoinette Loya, fourth at 23.59; Humel, fifth, 23.67; Katie McIntee, seventh, 23.95; and Taylor Lehr, eighth, 24.18, also swam in the A bracket final.

Lehr was the only other finisher in the top-three in one of the three individual events on the meet's first day. The Spartan senior was third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.33, now #8 on the all-time San Jose State list.

The three-day invitational continues on Friday, November 17, and concludes on Saturday, November 18.
