Cincinnati, Ohio----- Three event winners, five pool records, and three qualifiers for the 2018 National Invitational Championships highlighted a big day for San Jose State University on the second day of the Bearcat Midseason Invitational women's swimming meet.
Brenna Bushey in the 100 butterfly and Colleen Humel in the 100 backstroke won their events with pool records in their morning qualifying swims and did not give record board monitor at the Keating Aquatic Center pool time for virtual paint to dry with faster times in the championship final. Bushey and Humel also qualified for the 2018 National Invitational Championships in Annapolis, Md.
"This has been our best performance at a fall championships since 2012. I am very encouraged by our progress and performance," said San Jose State University women's swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins.
Bushey won the 100 butterfly with a record-setting 53.86 time after setting a pool record with the fastest preliminary round time of 54.86.

"The fact that we have six student-athletes who have punched their way to the post-season is huge for us," Hopkins added. He was referring to divers Cari Reiswig, Kylie Fonseca and Natasha Sondeno who are qualifiers for the 2018 NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
In the team scoring, San Jose State remained in second place with 508.5 points. Host Cincinnati maintained its lead with 721. The Spartans have first-place finishes in four events after two days of action.
