Humel & Lehr's 1st Place Finishes Close Out Successful Bearcat Invitational

Cincinnati, Ohio ----- Colleen Humel in the 200 backstroke and Taylor Lehr in the 100 freestyle were winners for San Jose State University on the final evening of the Bearcat Midseason Invitational women's swimming meet.

Humel, a senior from Chicopee, Mass., may miss leaving the Keating Aquatic Center after setting two more pool records, both in her preliminary and championship finals swims in the 200 back. Her winning time was a season-best 1:56.96, a NCAA Championship B cut mark and pool record.

At the Bearcat Invitational, Humel was one of three swimmers to win two individual races. She captured the 100 backstroke in a pool record time of 54.08 before winning the 200 back. Humel was involved in seven pool records for the 100 and 200 backstrokes and the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Lehr led a strong Spartan contingent in the 100 free with a winning time of 50.55, #8 on the San Jose State all-time list. Brittany Heng, Katie McIntee, Gabby Heng, Antoinette Loya, Shona Spikes and Kendal Guy all placed in the top-16 for the Spartans.

San Jose State finished second to host Cincinnati in the five-team scoring competition. Cincinnati pulled away with 1,079 points. San Jose State was second with 724.5 and Illinois State was third at 475.5. The Spartans finished with four individual events winners -- Humel, 100 and 200 back; Lehr, 100 free; and Brenna Bushey in the 100 butterfly and relay wins in the 200 and 400 medley relays.
