Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. - The San José State women's basketball team held a 4-3 lead forty second into its game against the Portland State Vikings, but PSU went on a 15-2 run over a five minute span and went on to a 90-78 win in The Event Center on Sunday afternoon.

Portland State (1-4) only took just 56 shots knocking down 26 (46.4 percent) including 8-of-17 from three-point range (47 percent). But the factor which proved to be the difference in the game was the Spartans 28 fouls which send Portland State to the line 37 times. The Vikings made 30 of their attempts to the Spartans who were 7-of-10 from the line.

PSU entered the game with three players, Sidney Rielly, Kiana Brown and Kylie Jimenez accounting for 70 percent of its scoring. The three combined for 56 of their team's 90 points with Rielly leading all scorers with 28.

The Spartans (1-2) struggled shooting throughout the first half. They made 3-of-18 threes (17 percent), shot 28 percent overall and trailed 47-31 after the first 20 minutes.

The Vikings built a lead of 21 points, 67-46, with 1:32 to play in the third, but back-to-back threes from Analyss Benally and Andrea Kohlhaas, both of whom finished with nine points, sandwiched around a free throw from Portland State's Labrea Denson, got the Spartans back to within 16-points at the end of the period.

Twice in the fourth quarter, SJSU got the lead down to 11 points, but each time Portland State answered, before winning by 12.

For the second game in a row, the Spartans were led in scoring by sophomore Taylor Turney whose 21 points are a career high. She also had four assists and two steals. Freshman Danae Marquez led the team with seven assists and added six points. Myzhanique Ladd was San Jose State's leading rebounder with nine. She scored six points and had two assists.

The Spartans return to action with games next Friday and Saturday in Stockton, Calif., at the University of the Pacific's Turkey Tip-Off. SJSU will play UOP on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and either Brown or Hampton on Saturday at a time to be determined.
