Volleyball Signs Players From Sweden, Germany

San Jose, Calif.— Erika Lindqvist, a 6-2 middle blocker from Ängelholm, Sweden, and Tabea Schwarz, a 6-0 outside hitter from Munich, Germany, have signed National Letters-of-Intent to play volleyball at San José State University beginning with the 2018 season, as announced by Spartan head coach Jolene Shepardson.

Lindqvist attends Ållebergsgymnasiet High School where she plays in the highest division during her time at the school. She was named the Most Valuable Player twice. Lindqvist plays club for Engelholms Volleybollsällskap and was selected to the Under-18 All-Star team. She has represented Sweden on the U17 and U19 teams at the European Championships.

"I didn't only choose San José State University because of the beautiful location, the incredible weather and the city that's full of opportunities. It was the family atmosphere, the dedicated staff and the chance for the team and myself to become both better players and people together," said Lindqvist.

"Erika is not only a physical athlete, but I was first impressed with her personal drive to excel in volleyball and in school. Erika was recently invited to join the senior national team in Sweden, so we're looking forward to her bringing some great experience to our volleyball family," said Shepardson.

Schwarz attends Gymnasium Oberhaching and plays club for SV Lohhof. Her club team was the German champion for the under-18 age group.

"I decided to commit to San José State University because I always wanted to go to the West Coast, and San José is a beautiful city with great opportunities.," sad Schwarz. "I was most impressed by the inspiring atmosphere of the team and the amazing coaches. It was always my dream to experience and grow from such an opportunity, playing indoor and beach volleyball as a Spartan!!"

"Tabea is a natural leader and a skilled player in both indoor and beach. Her energy and attitude on the court will attract many followers. We appreciate the combination of feisty competitor while being trusted teammates, and she will bring that to Spartan gym," said Shepardson.
