San Jose, Calif.--- The #11 San José State men's water polo team (13-11,1-3) was edged, 10-9, by #7 Long Beach State (12-11, 2-2) Friday night at West Valley College. The Spartans scored six goals off Long Beach exclusions in the match.
"We have got to figure out how to start better," said Spartan head coach Bruce Watson. "We got down early, and that hurt us. We need to put ourselves in a position to score the first goal. However, we battled back and had a chance to win against a good team."
Giacomo Lovatelli led San José State with a three-goal "hat trick" on four shots in the contest. Bendeguz Toth helped with a pair of goals against The Beach.
It wasn't enough to overcome the assault from Long Beach State. The 49ers fired 33 shots in the match to the Spartans 23. Austin Stevenson, Nemanja Bakic, and Duncan Lynde each had a pair of goals against the Spartans.
San José State takes on #3 UCLA Sunday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. at West Valley College. You can follow the live stats here.
