San Jose, Calif. -- Miguel Castillo scored the only goal in the match as San Jose State beat CSU Bakersfield, 1-0, in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest at the Spartan Soccer Complex.

Th3 victory guaranteed San Jose State (7-10-1, 5-4-1 WAC) a place in the seven-team WAC Tournament.

Castillo's header into the cage came in the 34th minute. He received a cross inside the box from teammate Omar Lemus. The goal was Castillo's first of the season.

"It was great coming off the bench and score a goal for the team." said Castillo.

San Jose State goalkeeper David Heredia was credited with one save in his fourth shutout in conference play and the season. CSU Bakersfield (6-10-1, 4-5-1 WAC) outshot the Spartans, 14-10.

"It's great to win to make sure we get to play in the WAC Tournament with best schools. We have won five of our last six games we have played and I I would like to take this momentum forward into the tournament," said head coach Simon Tobin.

The Spartans finished conference action in fourth place among 11 teams with 16 points.

SJSU will play its first match of WAC Tournament against University of Texas Rio Grand Valley on Wednesday, November 8 in Las Vegas.
