Santa Cruz, Calif.----- Senior Cari Reiswig surpassed her own school record in the 1-meter dive as San Jose State University defeated UC Santa Cruz, 230-69, in a non-conference women's swimming and diving meet.
Reiswig posted a score of 315.45 easily surpassing her own school record of 309.80 in last year's meet versus UC Santa Cruz.
The Spartans (1-0) finished first in all 15 events contested which included two 1-meter diving competitions.
"We had a solid day today with many great performances. The highlight was three of our divers posting qualifying scores for the NCAA Zone (championship) meet which is the first round of the NCAA Championships," said San Jose State women's swimming and diving coach Sage Hopkins. "At this point, the swimmers and divers plan to peak for their respective fall championship meets."
Reiswig met the NCAA Zone Championships 265.00 qualifying standard in the season-opening meet at Fresno State. Senior Kylie Fonseca with her 289.50 and Natasha Sondeno posting a 271.50 did it in the second 1-meter diving competition.
Senior Taylor Lehr led the Spartan swimmers with individual wins in the 50 and 200 freestyles and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Sophomores Violani Auva'a in the 100 back and 200 individual medley, Jamie Dodd in the 200 fly and 500 free and Jenna Lloyd in 100 and 200 breast were two more multiple event winners.
The Spartan swimmers head to Cincinnati for the Bearcat Invitational, November 16-18. That same weekend, the divers will be in Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Lumberjack Diving Invitational.
