Little Rock, Ark.----- First-year San Jose State University linebackers coach Bojay Filimoeatu is one of 56 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) assistant coaches nominated for the 2017 Broyles Award.
Named after the legendary University of Arkansas head coach and athletics director Frank Broyles (1924-2017), the award is given annually to the top assistant coach in the FBS.
Filimoeatu joined the San Jose State staff in January 2017 after serving one season at Oregon State. This season, he is the position coach for Frank Ginda, the nation's leading tackler averaging 14.0 tackles per game.
Raised in Montclair, Calif., the 27-year old Filimoeatu entered coaching after playing for the Oakland Raiders in the 2014 season. The 2012 Utah State graduate majored in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in sociology and physical education and played two seasons for the Aggies.
An 18-member selection committee will name 15 semifinalists and five finalists will be selected prior to the announcement of the winner on December 5.
