San Jose, Calif. - Jamie Craighead, head coach of the San José State women's basketball team, announced the signing of Miyah Lewis-Hampton to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Lewis-Hampton will compete for the Spartans beginning in the 2018-19 school year.
"For us, this is kind of a nice change of pace," Craighead said. "The bulk of our team returns next year and our goal was to add one or two players who we felt would help us. We weren't going to take a chance on anyone. It was going to be Miyah or no one. If we didn't get the player we wanted we were not going to sign anyone. We got the player we wanted.
"This recruiting process has been a nice change of pace for our staff. We earmarked kids, it's been thorough, and we feel this player will really help us."

Coach Craighead's Comments
"Miyah is a really aggressive power forward, who is a bit undersized but is really good with her back to the basket. She can face-up and stretch it out to the perimeter. Not necessarily a three-point threat at this point, but she combines the attributes of (freshman forwards) Mikaylah (Wilson) and Cydni (Lewis) in a single package. She adds an element we need in terms of being able to do more things on both ends of the court. We have a lot of great shooters, but Miyah will bring us more of a rebounding and defensive presence inside. She is long, can really run and is a really, really good player. She scored 56 points in a game this summer, so she can fill it up and will always find a way to get it done."
