Volleyball Loses Hard-Fought Match To Wyoming

San Jose, Calif.-The San José State volleyball team got double-digit kills from three players and setter Breann Robinson notched her sixth double-double of the season in the team's 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 27-25) loss to Wyoming Thursday night at Spartan Gym.

Fernanda Vido led all hitters with 12 kills, followed by Thaliana Grajeda and Nandyala Gama with 11 kills each. Grajeda led the team in hitting at .333 (11-3-24).

Robinson recorded 34 assists and 11 digs for her double-double. The setter also led the team in blocks with six, followed by Laura Parts with five, Gama at four and Ryann Thomison at three.

Luiza Andrade recorded her fifth 20+ digs match as she led everyone with 22 digs. Jamie Hirai added 10 digs and recorded the team's only service ace of the match.

The teams came into the match as two of the top-three teams in the Mountain West with Wyoming in second place and the Spartans tied for third with San Diego State.

The Spartans and Cowgirls had five lead changes and 15 tied scores in the first set. San José State led 20-19 and tied the set at 22-22 before Wyoming took a 24-22 lead. SJSU got back to 24-23 on a Vido kill, but a Cowgirl kill gave them the 25-23 set win. Despite losing, the Spartans hit .389 in the set (18-4-36).

The second set was similar to the first set, with 12 tied scores but just three lead changes. Wyoming had a 19-16 lead before SJSU tied the set at 21-21. The Cowgirls then scored four of the final five points to win 25-22.

After intermission, San José State came out firing and led 15-10 in the third set. The team extended the lead to 23-16 and had set point at 24-19 before the Cowgirls scored five consecutive points to tie the match at 24-24. Wyoming then led 25-24, but a Robinson kill tied the set at 25-25. However, a Spartan service error and a Cowgirl kill gave Wyoming the 27-25 win and the 3-0 conference victory.

San José State drops to 16-10 overall and 8-7 in the MW. Wyoming is now 15-12 overall and 10-5 in the MW. The Spartans host #19 Colorado State this Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets. Admission to the match is free.
