San Jose, Calif.- Tia Gin, a Level 10 gymnast from Shell Beach, Calif., and Carli Orcutt, a Level 10 gymnast from Marana, Ariz., have signed National Letters-of-Intent to compete for the San José State University women's gymnastics team starting with the 2019 season, as announced by head coach Wayne Wright.
Gin competes for Performance Athletics Gymnastics in San Luis Obispo for coaches Stevie Blum and Don Eckert. She is believed to be one of the first gymnasts from the San Luis Obispo County to be offered a full-ride gymnastics scholarship. Gin competed at the 2017 Junior Olympic Nationals and helped her Region One Senior B team win the team title at Nationals. She finished 13th out of 56 gymnasts in the all-around at the Level 10 JO Nationals, Senior B section. Gin tied for 13th on the vault and 17th on bars. During her Level 10 competitive days so far, she has won the floor times and won the all-around and beam at the 2017 Chris Waller's Heart of a Champion meet. At the 2017 Region One meet, she tied for third on bars and was sixth in the all-round. Gin was second on bars and fourth on vault, floor and all-around at the 2017 NorCal State Championships.
Orcutt competes for Arizona Dynamics Gymnastics, the same club as current Spartan Kaitlin Won, for coaches Gina Mueller-Martin and Tricia Ogle. Orcutt finished 13th in the all-around and seventh on vault at the 2017 Region One Championships. She won a bars title three times during the 2017 competitive season. Orcutt won the vault tile at the 2016 Region One championship and at the 2016 Arizona State meet. She also won 2013 Level 8 State all-around title.
"Tia and Carli bring great skills sets to our program and will be great additions to our team," said Wright.
