Humel & Bushey Make Finals At Winter National Championships

Columbus, Ohio----- San Jose State University entered three women's swimmers in the U.S. Winter National Swimming Championships and is returning home with all three swimming in a final in their respective events.

After senior Brittany Heng placed 24th in the 50 freestyle on November 30, senior Colleen Humel placed 14th in the 100 backstroke and junior Brenna Bushey was 19th in the 100 butterfly on the third day of the four-day national championship meet conducted by USA Swimming.

"I'm pleased with today's performances and our meet overall," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins. "Having all three final at a national championship is a very positive step forward for the top end of our program."

Humel qualified for the "B" final in the 100 backstroke finishing with the 14th fastest time among 38 swimmers at 54.31. She held her position in the evening championship final with a 54.64 clocking.

Bushey got the Spartans started on the right track placing 17th in the 100 butterfly preliminary round with a 54.26 time in another 38-swimmer field. Her time in the "C" final was 54.70.

The Spartans will return to action in dual meet competition, Wednesday, December 20, against the University of California at the Spieker Aquatics Center on the Berkeley campus. First event begins at noon.
