Logan, Utah--The Spartan women's gymnastics team tied two team apparatus top-10 scores in school history and another tied its season best as San José State scored a 194.275 Friday night in a meet at snowy Utah State with Sacramento State. The Spartans finished second behind the Aggies who scored a 195.450, while the Hornets ended a 193.275.
The beam team scored a 48.975, tying for the seventh-best beam score in school history. Stephanie Relova won the beam with a career-best 9.875, her second career beam title. Kaitlin Won tied her career best with a 9.850, followed by Taylor Chan at 9.800. Michelle Shalit and Chelsey Andrada each scored a 9.725, while Madilyn Probst had a 8.975.
The vault team tied for the 10th-best score in school history with a 48.850. Ellie Pascoe-Long won the event with a career-best 9.825. Chan tied for second at 9.800, followed by Kaprece Nadonza with a career-high 9.775, Josalyn Ray and Andrada at 9.725 and Won at 9.700.
The floor team also turned its second consecutive 48.975, led by Pascoe-Long as she tied for first place with a career-high 9.850. Andrada, Won and Chan each scored a 9.800, followed by Ray at 9.725 and Kendal Watts at 9.000.
Won also captured her first all-around title of the season with a 39.075, while Chan had a 38,700.
The Spartans opened the meet on bars with a 47.475. Won led the team with a 9.725, followed by Kaprece Nadonza at 9.650, Probst at 9.500, Chan and Relova at 9.300 and Watts at 8.925.
San José State hosts the first of four home meets for 2018 next Friday, January 26, as the Sacramento State Hornets visit The Event Center. March-out begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX (7589).
