San Jose, Calif.----- San Jose State University recorded a convincing 7-0 win over Sonoma State University in a season-opening non-conference women's tennis dual match.
Playing in the new on-campus Spartan Tennis Complex for the first time, the Spartans (1-0) won every completed singles and doubles set in the match.
San Jose State jumped out to a 1-0 lead sweeping the #1 and #3 doubles matches both by identical 6-0 scores.
With senior Sybille Gauvain leading the way at #1-singles with her 6-0, 6-1 straight sets win over Sonoma State's Amanda Zuidema, San Jose State started its 2018 dual match schedule on a winning note.
Freshmen Laura Malsert at #4-singles and Jackie Wagner at #5-singles picked up their first collegiate dual match victories for the Spartans.
The Spartans conclude their first weekend of dual match action, Saturday, January 27 hosting #1-ranked Stanford (0-0), in a 12:00 p.m. (PT) contest. Despite being separated by less than 25 driving miles, the two teams are playing each other in a dual match for the first time since the 1988 season.
